FASTING GUIDELINES
A pratical guide to prayer, fasting, repentance, and rebuilding during the 52-Day Rebuild Initiative
SEPTEMBER 11 - NOVEMBER 1, 2026
WHY WE FAST
Throughout Scripture, fasting accompanies repentance, spiritual warfare, breakthrough, consecration, and moments of national crisis. During the 52-Day Rebuild, we are inviting believers to unite for three days of prayer and fasting as we seek God for mercy, healing, and revival.
This kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.
- MATTHEW 17:21
Humble ourselves before God
Seek breakthrough and freedom
Stand in the gap for our families, churches, and nation
Turn from sin and seek His face
Just as Esther called for a three-day fast in a time of national crisis (Esther 4:16), we are setting aside three days to humble ourselves before the Lord and seek His intervention.
FASTING POSITIONS OUR HEARTS
We believe fasting can become a fast track to breakthrough—not because fasting manipulates God, but because it humbles us, quiets competing appetites and distractions, sharpens our spiritual focus, and positions our hearts to seek Him wholeheartedly.
FASTING CAN BEAR LASTING FRUIT
Fasting can also plant spiritual seeds that mature into real, lasting fruit. What begins during three days of surrender before God can continue producing repentance, freedom, reconciliation, restored families, renewed churches, transformed spheres of culture, and revival long after the fast has ended.
THE HEART BEHIND OUR THREE DAYS.
We are fasting for ourselves.
We are fasting for families.
We are fasting for the Church.
We are fasting for every sphere of culture.
We are fasting for America and the nations.
For three days, we are asking “We His People” to humble ourselves together, turn from sin, seek the face of God, contend for strongholds to be broken, and cry out for mercy and healing over our land.
We fast believing that what is surrendered in prayer today can become the seed of tomorrow’s breakthrough.
MORE THAN A FAST-
A TIME TO RETURN
The goal of these 52 Days is not merely to complete a fast. It is to return to God wholeheartedly. Like Nehemiah, we begin on our knees-praying, fasting, confessing, and seeking the Lord-and then rise to faithfully build what God has placed before us.
PRAY. FAST. REPENT. REBUILD.
Return to Me with all your heart, and with fasting, weeping, and mourning.
- JOEL 2:12
We are asking God to rebuild the spiritual walls of blessing and protection around our families, communities, states, and nation-beginning with our own hearts.
A BIBLICAL
FOUNDATION FOR FASTING
Fasting is woven through Scripture.
HOW CAN I PARTICIPATE?
During these 52 Days, there is no single required form of fasting. We encourage each person to prayerfully seek the Lord and be led by the Holy Spirit regarding both what to fast and when to fast.
TRADITIONAL FOOD FAST
Fast for an appropriate period of time.
DANIEL-STYLE FAST
Simplify your diet and abstain from certain foods.
MEDIA / TECHNOLOGY FAST
Set aside social media, television, streaming, news, or entertainment and dedicate that time to prayer, Scripture, worship, repentance, and seeking God.
Lord, what are You asking me to lay aside so that I can seek You more fully during these 52 Days?
FAST WITH WISDOM
Fasting should be approached prayerfully and responsibly.
Your health and safety matter.
BEFORE BEGINNING A FOOD FAST
The Nehemiah Alliance does not provide medical advice, and participation in any food-related fast is entirely voluntary. Before beginning a fast or making significant changes to your diet, please consult your physician or other qualified healthcare professional.
PARTICULARLY IF…
- you are pregnant or nursing
- you take prescription medications
- you have diabetes or another medical condition
- you have a history of an eating disorder
- you are elderly
- you are under 18
- you have any condition that may be affected by changes in food or fluid intake
REMEMBER
Never discontinue prescribed medication or alter medical treatment for the purpose of fasting without consulting your healthcare provider.
A biblical fast does not require putting your health at risk.
Those for whom food fasting is medically inadvisable are encouraged to consider another meaningful form of sacrifice, such as a media or entertainment fast.
As we enter the Nehemiah Alliance’s 52 Days of Prayer, Fasting, Repentance, and Rebuilding, from sundown September 10 through sundown November 1, 2026, we invite believers across America and around the world to prayerfully consider how the Lord may be calling them to fast.
Our purpose is not simply to abstain from something - it is to set something aside so that we may more intentionally seek God.
CHOOSING YOUR THREE FAST DAYS
During the 52-Day Rebuild Initiative—from sundown September 10 through sundown November 1, 2026—we encourage participants, as they are able and feel led by the Holy Spirit, to select at least three voluntary days for focused fasting and prayer. They do not have to be consecutive. In fact we encourage you to strategically, prayerfully and intentionally choose your 3 days.
